With over 25 years experience of creating impeccable work and making people look their best. Barney has styled some of the worlds biggest celebrities and sought after faces. Starting his career in London in the 90’s he decided to swap the grey chilliness for some sun and blue sky which brought him to Sydney. Barney has worked on multiple London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks and has been featured in the worlds top international publications.
The salon was voted one of the best in the world in June 2014 by US Harpers Bazaar. Career highlights include shooting with Mario Testino and Kate Moss for Vogue UK as part of legendary Sam McKnights team.
Barney knows hair inside and out and his continual boundary pushing and relentless perfectionism produces some of the best hair in Sydney and a damn good experience! When someone walks out of the salon beaming from ear to ear he knows he’s done a good job.

Artistic Director
James originally hails from Surry in the UK.
With a wealth of editorial, session styling and education experience James heads up the Barney Martin art team and loves to share his creativity with his clients and experience with the apprentices.
James has over 25 years experience working on fashion editorials, T.V, fashion week, as well as fashion and beauty campaigns for leading brands. He has worked with various celebrities including Elle Macpherson, Gisele Bunchen, Nicole Scherzinger, Tommy Lee (Motley Crue) ,and Carice Van Houten (Game of thrones).
Hairdressing has taken James throughout the world working in London, Berlin, Paris and Italy. James’s work has been seen in the pages of Elle (Italy, USA), Vogue, Russh, Marie Claire (UK & Aust), Instyle and Grazia (UK & Aust) .
James is passionate about working within the hairdressing industry and continues to update and develop his styling techniques and colour knowledge to bring into the salon.
Above all James loves good team work towards creating something special.
Shari @ Barney Martin, Sydney

Head Colourist
Shari has a collaborative approach with her clients, and exceeds in creating beautiful, bespoke hair, based around the colour harmony of hair, eyes and skin. She has a near encyclopedic knowledge of colour, with attention to detail and technical consistency that is second to none.
Having been personally trained by and shadow to the legendary Josh Wood, who is credited as being the most influential and trendsetting hair colourist in the world, as well as the Sassoon Academy in London Shari’s love of all things hair is inspiring.
Shari’s career took off when she was chosen as George Michaels permanent hair colourist, creating his signature creamy blonde highlights. Soon to follow, Trinny and Suzannah became her clients at the Richard Ward salon, London, requesting Shari to work with them on their popular TV show ‘What Not To Wear’ creating confidence boosting makeovers.
Developing her talents through her quest for knowledge and taking regular trips to London and L.A via the Sassoon Academy and the worlds most exciting hair, beauty and fashion stores keeps her enthusiastic and savvy. Shari has built an enviable client base including industry insiders, rockstars and royalty. Her work has regularly been featured in leading international publications and her reputation for being Sydney’s go to colour professional continues to grow.
Julianne @ Barney Martin, Sydney

Editorial Stylist
Julianne is considered a leading stylist, a highly sought after editorial artist and educator for Oribe. Julianne is a passionate advocate of her craft. Warm and energetic she is a favourite amongst the fashion industry and clients alike.
Julianne’s talent has taken her around the world. Having styled for some of America and Europe’s leading publications, including Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, V magazine, Elle, ID and GQ. Also having created looks for celebrities including Catherine-Zeta Jones, George Clooney and Scarlett Johansson as well as been involved in high profile advertising campaigns alike.
She has worked regularly in Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks as a member of world renowned hairstylist Guido Palau’s team for fashion shows including Chloe, Lanvin, Balenciaga, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier and more.

Senior Stylist and Barney Martin 1 Assistant Manager
Michelle is like a ray of sunshine both professionally and personally. She has been in the industry for over 10 years after training with Toni and Guy. She is a brilliant cutter with an eye for precision and for helping clients confidently visualize a hair refresh and taking the plunge towards a style update!
Michelle recently worked at the Pop Up salon space at Splendour in the Grass in Byron. She loves a bit of creative freedom and was part of Sydney Fashion week this year, a perfect outlet for her talents!

One of our newer salon recruits Erin comes with international Vidal Sasson training.
Erin is a huge asset to the Barney Martin Team, she’s a technical cutting genius and fantastic colourist. Her attention to detail is second to none and naturally warm personality make even the most tense clients take a deep breath, relax and embrace a change!
She hails from a scottish clan of hairdressers.

Unafraid to push the boundaries and get creative, yet with an understated style. Clare loves nothing more than a specific brief that is a whole hair transformation; colour, cut the works!
She loves the precision of mens cuts and has a super personalised approach with every client. She has been part of the BM hair family for 4 years. Recently returning from a stint in Berlin – which offered lots of creativity!

Senior Stylist and Colourist
Steph hails from Ireland where she worked with the tresses of The Pussycat Dolls and The Corrs. Steph totally embraces a very technical approach to colour to get every shade, shimmer and reflection perfect. Her freehand technique for subtle tonal work is outstanding and her client loyalty is testament to this.
Whether it’s a dramatic and bold look or soft, pastley hues Steph will get you there. As a third generation hairdresser, it’s in her DNA!
We can’t wait to welcome her back to the salon after giving birth to gorgeous Amelia Rose.

Barney Martin 1 Front of House - Stylist and Colourist
Wednesday completed her 5 years training with us. Meaning she’s been at Barney Martin Hair for her entire career, and she still loves it! As well as being at the salon she is also studying more technical aspects of the hair and beauty industry.
In 10 years time she would like to be a session stylist in Europe with a bit of a Salon base. The world is your oyster young lady!

Stylist
Taylor has been in the hair game for her entire career and successfully graduated in 2016. Taylor gives a showstopping blow-dry and is starting to building a strong client list, especially for her colour work!
With some of the best educators in the business teaching her the craft she’s looking like making her ambition of becoming a colour educator a reality.

Kim’s love of hair is borne from a general love of dress ups. She is in her second year of training and aspires to be a personal stylist. Specifically for Harry Styles!
Her passion and skills are shining through, she loves the creative and technical side of hairdressing and is super eager to get on the salon floor.
