Maria Dowling's salon is known in fashion and beauty circles to be one of the best in Dubai. Dubbed the ‘Queen of Colour’ by her fashionista clients, Maria Dowling has been in the hair business for over 20 years, having successfully opened the Middle East’s first colour specialist salon in 2002.
Maria has gained Middle East wide recognition for her natural, subtle approach to hair colouring. At mariadowling Salon, the philosophy is simple; focusing on beautiful, believable colour that respects a client’s lifestyle, skin-tone and personality.
“The secret of truly beautiful colour is to add not just one shade, but many,” reveals Maria. In mariadowling Salon as many as four carefully selected shades may be required on a single head of hair to create a shimmering, brilliant blonde, a richly-toned, beautiful brunette, or an iridescent, ravishing red.
It’s not surprising that clients of mariadowling Salon return time and again not only for the world class cuts and colour, but because Maria and her team provide the perfect escape from our busy lives to focus on beauty and well-being. “Clients don’t just come to mariadowling because they want to look good, they come to us so that they can escape the pressures and demands of their everyday lives and focus on themselves for a short time,” explains Maria. “Not only do we want our customers to leave the salon looking great, but we want them leaving feeling good too.”
Her philosophy is simple; To deliver what women need. “Women should get what they need and not what marketing people think they want. I analyse a woman’s needs with a simple question to myself”: “what do I need?”
For the mariadowling experience it is advised to book up to six weeks in advance, with waiting lists the norm for her and her stylists! Nevertheless the result and experience will be well worth the wait!

Maria Dowling is the Irish girl who has made a name for herself as the Arab world’s leading hair colourist. With a career spanning over twenty years in the industry, Maria moved to Dubai nineteen years ago after a successful career in London.
As the Arab world’s leading colourist, and go-to colourist for every media luvvie, fashionista and visiting celebrity in Dubai, Maria’s little black book of clients reads like the who’s who of the fashion and beauty world. The reason? She is renowned for being able to intuitively create the most flattering shades, breaking all the colour boundaries and demonstrating time and time again an unrivalled skill and precision in her work.
Maria launched her eponymous salon, mariadowling, in 2002 and since then, the company has grown at a dizzying pace, and is now recognised as a luxury hair (colour) brand with a complete collection of hair styling and hair care essentials. The success of the salon led Maria to design and produce her own collection of hair styling essentials that perpetrate the style philosophy instigated by the mariadowling flagship salon. Maria launched the ‘m-brush’, the first of her own brand of styling accessories, to great acclaim. The ‘m-styling’ range now includes a total of six brushes to suit all hair types and styling needs, as well as three electrical hair styling appliances; the ‘m-straighteners’ (salon-size and mini) and the curling wand. The m-stylers have also been acknowledged by industry peers as products that perform and deliver beyond the many well-known high street brands.
Maria and her hand-picked team of stylists have attained an impressive degree of notoriety and respect throughout the industry, with the salon and styling appliances, winning several beauty awards. Her annual hair trends collections have graced the covers of international hair magazines including the prestigious Hairdresser’s Journal in the UK, and she is a regular contributor to luxury fashion titles including Harpers Bazaar, Grazia and Stylist magazine.
