Consequently, Jo is held in the highest regard by her peers in the industry and her celebrity clientele, who include HRH Duchess of Cornwall, Elizabeth Hurley, Yasmin Le Bon and Nigella Lawson.
Jo’s reputation as the leading authority in hair colour extends far and wide - Jo travels extensively with her team and participates in seminars and shows around the globe. She also judges awards including the high-profile L’Oréal Colour Trophy in Australia, New Zealand, France, South Africa and the UK.
Jo is pioneering the new innovation in professional hair colour by L’Oreal – INOA – the first ammonia free hair colourant.
More than just a legendary colourist, Jo is also an astute businesswoman. With the help of Joanna Hansford, her daughter and Managing Director of the company, Jo was runner up in the Everywoman Business Awards in 2005. The salon was runner up in the Global Salon Business Awards in 2006 and also won the Financial Mail Enterprise Award for Sales and Marketing in 2000.
Jo was awarded her MBE for services to the hairdressing industry on 25th November 2010. It was presented to her by the Princess Royal and Jo was delighted to receive it. She said of the experience ‘I am both humbled and honoured to receive such a prestigious award and be recognized for my dedication to the industry. Hairdressing has always been my passion and I am so fortunate to still be in a career that is so rewarding and enjoyable.’
When Jo opened her specialist colour salon in 1993 her team consisted of just eight staff. Today, Jo Hansford is the home of a team of over forty highly skilled colourists, stylists and assistants, all experts within their field.
Jo maintains ‘We should never stop learning…this industry is ever evolving and we must move with it…I still find it as exciting now as I did at the beginning of my career.’
