In New York, Guy Vincent Riggio grew up attending private creative schools where he developed an interest in hair and fashion. A self-taught stylist, Guy has quickly become one of the top talents in the LA hair scene.
Under the tutelage of renowned hair pioneer Vidal Sassoon's protégé and Sally Hershberger, Guy polished and perfected his technique. It was under Hershberger that he was able to explore his creativity, network with key fashion industry insiders and discover his own cutting edge style. Guy has appeared on various television make-over shows and specials ranging from E, Bravo & Extra. His work has graced the covers from Allure to Vanity Fair and he has worked on countless films.
Guy Riggio's salon clientele ranges from young fashion hipsters to sexy suburban housewives. His celebrity clientele includes Nicole Kidman, Michelle Williams, Jessica Beal, Mandy Moore, Mary Kate Olson, Amanda Bynes, Kerri Russel, Jamie King, Jewel, Ewan McGregor, Meg Ryan, Ashley Greene, Ryan Reynolds, Tom Scott, Hillary Duff and Paris Hilton.
Matthew Shields accidentally fell in love with hair at the young age of 17 when he experienced his first bad hair-do, experimenting with a product called "Sun-in." He spent time at one of the local salons, trying to undo his hair-disaster and found his calling.
His professional career began in London and Paris where he assisted for top stylists and learned about the basic techniques of hair styling. He moved to the United States in the late 80's and began to build his portfolio and clientele list. A meeting with celebrity stylist, Sally Hershberger, became a turning point in his career as she became his mentor and introduced him to some of her celebrity clients most notably Meg Ryan and Jane Fonda. Matthew also worked extensively with the Olsen twins evolving their hair to their infamous "boho" look of their later teen years.
Matthew's celebrity clientele includes Meg Ryan, Jane Fonda, Greg Kinnear, Lisa Rinna and Ellen Degeneres to name a few. He has worked on cult classic videos such as Guns N'Roses "November Rain," and Michael Jackson's, "Black and White."
Hairstylist Derek Smart’s distinct work reflects his belief in each and every person’s potential for transformation. Creating hair that is otherwise described as “pure beauty,” Smart is known for bringing forth each client’s individual sense of style. When his older sister battled with alopecia, Smart who spent his younger years styling her wigs, found his inspiration. Pursuing his dream of becoming a hair stylist, Smart began his professional training under the teaching of notable British stylist, Stephen Wake.
The early eighties were a time of great inspiration for Derek as he saw hair as the perfect expression of the conflation of music and fashion. After seven years of apprenticing in England and working as a stylist at various high-end salons, Derek moved to California to expand his knowledge of his craft. He spent the next 17 years at salons like the Bungalow on Melrose, developing a diverse clientele from the worlds of entertainment, business, fitness and fashion.
Derek Smart has styled several celebrities and stars of film and television most notably Elizabeth Banks, T.R. Knight, Elizabeth Perkins, Neil Patrick Harris, Melissa Rosenberg (screen writer of Twilight films), Sarah Clarke, Gil Bellows, Hugh Fitzgerald, Paul Sarkis and several of the stars from the hit television show “Bachelors.” Derek’s fascination with music and fashion fused with his deep love of people continues to influence his creative work. Sulekha Hilton always knew she would be a colorist. As a child, she fondly remembers playing with color bottles in the bath and grew up experimenting on her friend's hair colors. When it came time for her to pick a career, there was no doubt in her mind that she needed to pursue a professional career in haircare.
Upon graduation, she went to work as an assistant at the renowned John Frieda Salon where she trained under notable colorists Jonathan Gale and Lorri Goddard-Clark. Paul Perez has a love for all things with style. But, most importantly, he has demonstrated his creativity and talent for making women look and feel beautiful. Upon graduation from beauty school in Southern California 8 years ago, Perez took his inspiring and impressive talents to one the most well known salons in West Hollywood, the Sally Hershberger at John Frieda salon. It was here he honed and developed his hair cutting and styling abilities along the sides of such famed stylists like Sally Hershberger, Mark Townsend, Matthew Shields and Teddy Antolin. Those 5 years earned Perez his own name in the high-end field of fashion and beauty hair cutting and styling in Los Angeles. His success garnered the attention of other well-known stylists in the business. One of which was Byron Williams.
When Byron Williams decided to open his own up upscale salon, he asked Perez to be a member of his team as a stylist. Perez flourished with his up-do's and gorgeous styling statements. One of the most innovative and enduring hairstylists working in the beauty business, Louise Moon’s career is still at its pinnacle after nearly 30 years.
Spanning the globe in her efforts to hone her craft, Moon quickly learned the artistry of cutting hair at the Vidal Sassoon Academy in London at a very young age. Her career took off living and working in Europe for 13 years. During this stage, Moon split her time between Paris, London and Milan submersing herself in the world of high fashion.
It was back in Paris, Louise realized that celebrities were going to be the next big thing. Armed with only her strong portfolio and her foresight, she made the move to Los Angeles. Hollywood’s A-list quickly gravitated to her as she created fashionable hairstyles that suited each star’s personality. Louise’s celebrity resume includes Angelina Jolie, Ben Affleck, Jane Lynch, Matthew McConaughey, Holly Hunter, Daniel Craig, Charlize Theron, Gisele Bundchen and Jennifer Lopez to name a few.
Louise has her finger on the pulse of what is fashionable, while keeping styles tasteful and timeless. Dry haircutting is usually her preferred technique to sculpt a shape and follow the natural movement of the client’s hair. Each and every client leaves armed with ideas and instruction on how to style their new look.
Once upon a time, Lisa Oliver was a cutting-edge stylist. On any given day, you might spot Johnny Depp or Courtney Cox sitting in her chair. Since then, she’s evolved into one of today’s master hair colorists, with a “go to” reputation among LA’s fashionistas and style police. Mention her name in certain circles, and these are some of the clients you’ll hear about: Michelle Pfeiffer, Felicity Huffman, Lori Loughlin, Goldie Hawn, Sherilyn Fenn, Dina Waters, Ellen Pompeo and Heather Locklear, just to name a few.
But enough with the name-dropping. Lisa is a down-to-earth gal who sees the superstar in everyone. Color is her art. And each new client is a masterpiece waiting to happen. That’s why she takes the time to create a customized color solution that positively accentuates the face and complements the skin. Her color palette encompasses everything from sun-kissed blonde to bold, fiery reds. (Just ask Marcia Cross.) But she’s not afraid to go to the dark side as well.
So, when you’re ready to find the color that best expresses your passion and personality, Lisa is ready to be your “go to” gal
Mark Stephens has an innate ability to capture a client’s natural seductiveness through the use of luminous hair color at any age.
Stephens has been specializing in youthful hair color for over two decades. He believes hair color is true to you and only you, bringing back the hair color you had as a teenager, as a child, hair with bounce and glow. He prides himself on creating color that brings out his client’s inner beauty.
Salon chairs and hair care wasn’t Stephens original career path - it was the football field. However when injuries sidelined Stephens, he began looking for something that was easier on his joints (as well as his eyes) and he signed up for beauty school.
While at beauty school, Stephens caught the eye of several modeling agencies that catapulted him into the European modeling world. He walked the runways for top designers and modeled for high profile campaigns, becoming the face for many global brands. With an exclusive all-access pass to the world’s finest stylists and the latest cutting edge techniques, it was backstage that Stephens developed a passion for captivating color.
When he returned to Los Angeles, Stephens worked side by side with another young colorist, Jonathan Gale. Just as Stephens, Gale is now considered one of the finest colorists in the industry. The two young colorists bounced ideas and color concepts off of one another, experimenting with different techniques and non-traditional ways to create color with dimension and brilliance. Stephens has used this approach for years and continues to be on the forefront of creating healthy vibrant hair color. Before joining the team at Sally Hershberger Los Angeles, Stephens worked at Cristophe and Juan Juan Salon.
His celebrity clientele includes Kate Hudson, Tori Spelling, Pamela Anderson, Amanda Bynes, Janice Dickenson, Tom Petty, Martin Short and Dustin Hoffman.
Los Angeles native Corey Powell began his career in the early 80s, apprenticing under Jose Eber in Beverly Hills. Twenty years later, he is one of the most sought after hair designers in Hollywood with an extensive celebrity clientele including movie stars, musicians, photographers and directors. Corey’s motto is, “Hair is sexy, and I love what you let me do with it.”
With Corey’s strong focus on creativity, he built his reputation as a genius with shears and master styling. According to LA Magazine, Corey has been known to “... [bring] the curliest heads of hair to its knees!” In the mid 90s, he began focusing on color and exploring different techniques, all while working in Paris, London and Berlin. Corey created many famous personas through his keen eye for color and use of the ancient French technique of Balayage, a free style form of highlighting and low-lighting hair. He is known for his trademark ‘Casual, California Sexy’ look - “Any Hollywood golden worth her blonde locks knows Corey Powell for his Saucy Beach Girl [look],” stated Us Weekly. His discerning eye gives him the incredible ability and natural talent for coloring hair. But it was Corey’s “Chic Streaks” that caught the attention of InStyle Magazine, who dubbed him, “The Master of Mixing Paints.” Corey believes color should always be rich, have depth and contrast, while maintaining the health of hair.
Corey has consulted on many top TV shows and countless feature films to create “looks” for a long list of actors including Reese Witherspoon as a luscious brunette in “Walk the Line,” Cameron Diaz in “Charlie’s Angels, Full Throttle,” Laura Linney in “House of Mirth” and Kim Basinger’s countless looks, in multiple films. In addition, his most notable celebrity clientele, includes Hilary Swank, Toni Colette, Benicio del Toro, Paris Hilton, Kate Hudson, Tea Leoni, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Nicole Richie, Sharon Stone, Elizabeth Taylor, Charlie Sheen and Mary Louise Parker - not to mention his avid following of personal clients. Corey is now available for color appointments at the famed Sally Hershberger Salon in Los Angeles.
Special Treatment
In 2008, Corey began pampering his clients with his very own custom-blended natural hair therapies. Picking herbs from his home garden and hand mixing them with infused cold-pressed oils, each hair therapy is created for and tailored to his client’s needs, leaving their hair in incredible condition. Very popular among the Hollywood crowd, Hilary Swank and Renee Zellweger love the Rose Geranium Lavender Hair Therapy, while Cameron Diaz adores the Rosemary Infused, Camellia Seed Cold-Pressed Oil Hair Therapy. Marie Claire calls Corey “...the man behind the all natural hair therapy and masks.”
Future
Corey’s nurturing hair therapies are currently being developed as a packaged product, so he can begin offering his natural, organic and earth-friendly products to a wider audience. And stay tuned for the soon to be released beauty book “Aesthetic Approach to Beauty” to which Corey contributed a chapter.
