L'Atelier Blanc moved!
L'Atelier Blanc by Frédéric Mennetrier just moved close to Place des Victoires, Paris. We met the team. Here is the story.
L'Atelier Blanc is a tiny and completely whitewashed studio: white wildflowers sit next to snow-colored porcelain candles and pale floor-to-ceiling screensstudio. The first word that comes to the mind when seeing L'Atelier Blanc is "peaceful".
“Ten years ago, I had an atelier on the Canal Saint Martin. But that one was all black”, says Frederic Mennetrier. There, Frederic Mennetrier used to dedicate his work to fashion and film industry professionals exclusively.
Frederic Mennetrier finally decided to "go public" and opened L'Atelier Blanc where regular but elegant Parisiennes in search of the perfect hair color have their hair done.
Frederic Mennetrier may be on set and out of town almost as often as he is in Paris, but an appointment with Frederic Mennetrier (who also cuts hair upon request) is well worth the wait. “[Whether] you’re in studio or you’re on the street, it has to be beautiful,” Frederic Mennetrier says. “I am always thinking about the best way to catch the light.”

MY NAME IS FREDERIC MENNETRIER
AND I’M A MAN OF MANY COLOURS
It’s a bug caught at an early age, almost in the crib, the little boy’s eye drawn to the bright colours of his first crayons, seduced, and then irremediably conquered by the promise of the thousand-and-one combinations in a box of water-colours.
MY NAME IS FREDERIC MENNETRIER
AND I’M A MAN FOR WOMEN
Their hair fascinates me, this raw material to sculpt, model, shape, in an infinite number of shades...
After ten years of classic salon training, I joined the world of photo shoot hairstyling to give my passion free rein, inspired by my all-time icons, led by Gina Roland and Brigitt Nelson.
Leading photographers, such as Jean-Paul Goude, Cédric Buchet, Sophia & Mauro, Satoshi and Serge Leblond, placed their faith in me; through them I learned how to work in a team and found out about the different stages in the creative process. How the stylist and hairdresser work in tandem to create life from a simple idea - a new character expressing itself for the duration of a series of photographs.
MY NAME IS FREDERIC MENNETRIER
AND I’M A MAN OF PICTURES
Crash. Citizen K. Vogue (Italian, German, Russian, Chinese, Australian). Madame Figaro. 10 Homme. Elle. Marie-Claire. L’officiel (Russia). Purple... They all published my work. However, seeing these countless photos on glossy paper, I was consumed by a desire to go even further. Colour… I wanted to explore it at its source. It was a real obsession, which drove me to teach myself about chemistry. A long and patient chromatic research process, it revolved around unsuspected but nonetheless everyday materials: fur, velvet, the buttons of an old army jacket, the shades of red in a branch of coral; colour is everywhere, and I sought out ways of reproducing it faithfully, pigment by pigment, under any conditions.
My work has allowed me to collaborate with the great names in hairdressing: Yannick d’Is, Luigi Murenu, Gregory Kaova, Stéphane Lancien, Malcolm Edwards, Marc Lopez, Odile Gilbert, Ward...).
On fashion and advertising shoots, my knowledge of chemistry and the science of pigments has allowed me to provide personalised colour consultations from the shortest of briefs, in order to find the right substance, the perfect glint, the best way of capturing the light, in every place, at every time and under any conditions.
