Philosophy

Cityzen expresses Azin’s driving belief that the Arts transcend differences by creating bridges beyond people ingrained traditional references. Taking the long view  -- she uses satellite images from Cities -- shifts people’s perspectives, literally, and brings naturally our commonality into focus. A unique vibrant color palette finishes to turn on the magic and succeeds in depicting a magnificent world unseen yet to the eyes that manages to touch us on a deeper level as Cityzen of this World. A fresh and stunning picture worth more than a thousand words.
Azin invites people from around the world to awake their Global Cityzenship and become Ambassadors of a cultural exchange through Fashion. Every Cityzen item sheds a new light on a City and suggests a unique path of discovery through the local arts, architecture, food, literature, music, film, as well as a charity for the featured city.
After a first expression through dresses, Azin’s latest Collection features the “scarf” as the ultimate piece of feminine garment that transcends times and cultures. She has reinterpreted this atemporal, and transcultural item to be in itself a symbol of the modern female Global Cityzen.

Bio

Azin Valy is the co-founder of the award winning multi-disciplinary Architecture firm, I-Beam Design, based in New York City.
In 2012 Azin launched Cityzen by Azin, a luxury Fashion brand with a global consciousness.
Inspired by stunning views of cities from above while doing research for an exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art, the spark for Cityzen by Azin was ignited: merging fashion with social entrepreneurship as a way to draw attention to a subject matter.
The Cityzen by Azin Collections incorporate highly customized satellite imagery of cities from around the world on the finest silks, satins and leather creating beautifully crafted apparel and accessories.
Azin’s approach to Fashion follows her conceptual and contextual approach to Architecture. Form following topography defines her designs. A river turns into a strap or a slit, a mountain becomes a volumetric neckline, and a road marks a transition in a garment… This intimate interaction between the urban landscape and the human body brings the topography to life, making a unique statement beyond Fashion.
