Philosophy

It’s in Asia that he found in eroded wood an obvious mean of self-expression. In this material tortured by time and weather, he found nobility, a spark of life, revealing a pure and simple aestheticism, a raw new beauty.

Michael Deloffre’s unique work lies in the relationship between Nature and the notion of space in time. His artwork is like "finished sketches", it relates to the essence of beauty and the secret of time. Michael Deloffre proposes a break in time, sharing his view of the world, greatly inspired by the simplicity and sheer force of Nature.

By creating monumental sculptures, he uncovers primary beauty and seeks the creation of a natural and contemporary movement of aesthetics.

The result is a typhoon of emotion, a mix that brings up strength and weakness simultaneously.

Bio

Michaël Deloffre, born in 1958 in the North of France, has always been an Art and Travel lover. He spent most of his childhood in Africa, and never ceased to travel and live worldwide ever since. 

At 18, he becomes a reporter. Then embarks on an impressive international business career.
At 30, he begins painting. Very quickly, his work catches a lot of attention and he becomes rapidly very successful. He exhibits in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, Monaco, Paris, and so many other places around the world.
In 2000, growing tired of a universe that doesn’t fit him anymore; he leaves the business world and dedicates himself to his passion: Art.

Loyal to his first love, painting, Michael discovers something new and inspiring during his travels. During a trip into the jungle in Asia, wood emerges as an obvious mean of self-expression. In this material tortured by time and weather, he finds nobility, a spark of life revealing a pure and simple aestheticism; a primal beauty, a kind of universal language.

To preserve the forest, he never works on living trees. His artworks are made from eroded wood, naturally cut decades ago that he finds himself with the help of the hill tribes’ Northern Thailand (All in accordance with the local authorities). He then works on them in his studio in Bangkok, and give them the right shape and the nicest patina.

The result of his work is a powerful emotion that communicates both strength and weakness. His works of art, presented as esquisses transcend the essence of beauty and the secret of time.

His original vision is revealed by the creation of unique monumental sculptures. A pioneer in enhancing Nature's raw beauty, he paved the way for a "natural and contemporary" aesthetic movement. 

In 2009, some of his works were purchased by the French Government. Michael Deloffre joined the “National Fund of contemporary art” and was acknowledged as a part of the French cultural and artistic heritage. 

As an internationally renowned artist, his works can be found in many private and public collections around the world.
With over 150 exhibitions around the world through Art Galleries and prestigious hotels, Michael Deloffre has acquired broad high-end clientele and has participated in many corporate and private projects with architects and famous designers in no less than 40 countries.
