Beauty Essentials in Every Makeup Bag

on September 15th, 2019

How many of you guys have a makeup or beauty bag that could do with a huge overhaul? Do you have more products in there than you can count? In an effort to help cut back on all the items we consider to be ‘non-essential’, we’ve put together a quick hit list of some things that should be in every girl's makeup arsenal.

Micellar water

Always ensure that you have something that will fully remove your makeup every single night. Leaving your makeup on can dry out your skin and even age you. But with many options out there for removing makeup, how do you find the right one? I personally use micellar water! It’s only really hit the mainstream beauty market in the last few years but acts as a great all-in-one solution for your evening routine. It cleanses, tones, and hydrates your skin. But, most importantly, melts that makeup away.

Primer

Primer is essential for any solid makeup routine, not only does it make your skin feel baby soft after application, but it smoothens out your skin, filling all those micro lines and pores on your face so that your foundation can just glide on and have a more flawless appearance. Unfamiliar with primer? These hacks will have you applying it like a pro in no time.

Setting Spray

Long gone are the days where people try to set their face with hairspray – admit it, perhaps you did it once or twice when you were a teenager! Nowadays, setting sprays help to keep your face looking flawless even after 12+ hours in the baking hot sun. I always use a little spritz on my face before applying my primer too. I find that it helps my makeup go on easier and is very refreshing too.

A Great Brush Collection

My makeup brushes are my life. I am wholeheartedly convinced that the right makeup brushes can make the world of difference when applying your makeup. For the eyes I always make sure I have a couple of applicator brushes as well as some blending brushes to really create the subtle, smokey eye and for the face I like to use a stippled brush or the newer, teardrop shape, paddle-like brushes. Always have an angled brush for bronzer/contour and having something for brows is a must too! You can thank me later.

Sunscreen

We all know how damaging the sun can be to our skin and have discussed what to look for in a high-quality sunscreen in the past on the blog. But I wanted to emphasize how you should always have a little in your beauty bag. Yes, some foundations come with built-in SPF, but what if you’re having a day off? It’s great to get into the routine of applying it daily to your face. It also acts as the perfect moisturizer.
