If you have always worn your hair long, considering a much shorter cut can be a big deal. From Long to Short - What to Expect When You Go for the Big Chop!
Having long hair is great. Luscious locks not only look fantastic but they can also be used to create lots of different styles from up-dos to casual beach-babe waves. But sometimes, we all need a bit of a change and rocking a shorter cut can be invigorating.
If you’ve had long hair for a while, it’s a daunting prospect to just chop it all off. So let’s talk through how you can make a successful transition and rock that cute short look!
Know your strengths
We all have things about our faces that we like and other things that we usually prefer to hide behind our long hair. Before you make the cut, consider the aspects you are most self-conscious about and really think about what kind of style will make you feel good. To be honest, these ‘weaknesses’ are probably all in your head, but you want a haircut that you’re happy and confident with so it’s worth considering.
You should also think about the type of hair you have. Curly hair has a very different texture to straight hair and both types will need to be cut differently in order to make a certain look work for you. Talk to your stylist before making the chop and don’t be afraid to ask questions and discuss things in detail. After all, you’re the one who has to live with this style for the foreseeable future.
Jump in the deep end
If you fancy a change - just go for it. Hair grows back after all. Take some visual aids with you to the salon and don’t be afraid to check in with the stylist as they go. Making a drastic change can be scary but it can also feel absolutely fabulous!
Test the waters
If you’re just too nervous to go for the big chop, consider testing the waters with a mid-length cut first. Something shorter but not too drastic. Ease yourself into the transition and build up the confidence to eventually chop it all off.
Confidence is everything
At the end of the day, if you wear your new style with confidence, it’s going to look great no matter what. Whether or not you can pull a certain look off is 99.99% in your head. Head and face shape has very little to do with it.
Hair will always grow back. Enjoy it, take risks and experiment with new looks. Who knows… you may love your new hair so much that you never want to grow it long again!
