To a point, it doesn't matter what you weigh. It doesn't matter your age or gender. If you believe that your health and overall wellness would improve if you lost some pounds, then that is your prerogative.
Without judgment, if you are aiming to be your best self ever, and this journey involves weight loss, you may already know how frustrating the process may be. However, there is a method that has helped many people (myself included!) to finally let go of those stubborn pounds that seem recalcitrant to any other means of losing unwanted weight.
Intermittent fasting (IF) may be simply defined as going without food for a period of time longer than sleep. Thus, outside of sleep, you must consume all of your calories for the day within a shorter time frame. Benefits of IF include increased energy, mental clarity, improved fat-burning, and reduced total body inflammation.
Potential issues include a sensation of hunger, mood changes, irritability ("hangry"), and compliance. However, if you can override your head and power through, IF may help you reach your health goals.
There are a number of ways to undergo IF. Choose the program that is right for you and your lifestyle:
The 16/8 Method: Skip breakfast; fast for 16 hours between dinner the night before and lunch the day after; good for beginners
"Lean Gains:" as above; however, women fast for 14 hours; men fast for 16 hours
The 5:2 Diet: Eat well and clean for 5 days then cut calories significantly for 2 days: women- 500 calories, men- 600 calories
The Alternating schedule: Eat a normal number of calories one day, ten cut the calories to 1/5 the next day
Warrior: fast for 20 hours then eat only one large meal at night
Semi-Liquid diet: drink green juices all day then have a clean, sensible meal for dinner; for short-term use
Full Liquid Diet: Drink 6-8 bottles of green juices all day everyday for 3-7 days; typically for short-term duration to reach a specific goal over a short period of time; a liquid-only diet is not advisable or sustainable over long periods of time
As with most food plans, success may be predicted by choosing the plan that best suits your needs, schedule, lifestyle, and temperament.
Choose wisely, and let go of the fear of missing out!
