Women of Style
Women owned and operated businesses are the fastest growing and highly successful driving force in today’s volatile economy. At LSW, we are proud to feature more than a dozen prestigious women-owned salons as members.
Our tribute starts in Europe with Marlies Moeller, Germany’s first star stylist. Her flagship salon is located in Hamburg (and belongs with 5 other salons to Marlies Moeller empire). She also created her own haircare product line.
London renowned colorist Jo Hansford opened her first salon already almost 30 years ago. She has been described since then as “The First Lady of Color” or “the best tinter on the planet”.
Vania Laporte represents France (and especially Bordeaux) among LSW women-owned salons. She is furthermore one of the 16 French L’Oreal Professional Hair Ambassadors.
Petra Mechurova in Prague is not only an L’Oreal Professional Ambassador, but also the creative director of the team Haute Coiffure Francaise for the Czech Republic.
In the United States, Sally Hershberger has reached star status with her salons. In 2008, she also created her eponymous hair care line. Sally Hershberger is known for creating Meg Ryan’s signature haircut, the “Shally Shag”. She is the first female hairstylist whose talent and business acumen enabled her to reach celebrity rank.
Maxine Kroll in Chicago has a very successful business built on extensive experience and talent. Within a year after opening her salon in Chicago, the salon outgrew the space so she had to move to its current address in the popular Magnificent Mile area. Maxine’s top-rated salon with over 50 staff members is both a flagship L’Oreal Professional Haircolor Center and a Kerastase Treatment Institute.
Looking at Asia, Maria Dowling owns Middle East’s first color-specialist salon in Dubai and has been referred to by many journalists as “the Middle East’s queen of color”. Maria Dowling also launched her own hair styling brush in 2006, a salon sized hair straightener in 2007, a mini hair straightener in 2008, the ritual-m-styler in 2010 and an aroma therapeutic range of hair products in 2011!
In Vietnam Sandrine Nguyen is leading the way in the Ho Chi Minh City's Hair scene with Concept Coiffure. After arriving from France in 2005 and been trained by famous names like TONI&GUY and Vidal Sassoon for several years in Europe, Sandrine has built up a very dedicated clientele that seeks quality hair styling combined with the best products and uncompromising standards of service.
Miho Matsuura in Tokyo knows about multitasking: she is both the owner of the internationally renowned Twiggy salon and one of Japan’s leading editorial hair stylists. She is also a dedicated supporter of the natural beauty movement. Her salon that opens onto an outdoor garden uses mostly organic products.
Going to Oceania we close our acknowledgment with Jayne Wild and her Wild Life salon in Sydney. She is a GHD Australian Ambassador and the first female to be named 3 times Australian Hairdresser of the Year in the award’s history.
