"Forbici D'Oro" Award for Sergio Valente
On October 6th, Sergio Valente, hairstylist of models and the stars, received the Lifetime Achievement Award “Forbici D’Oro” ("Golden Scissors") from the ICD-Intercoiffure. The prestigious prize was awarded to the Italian hairdresser for his achievements and splendid career during a ceremony at the Aleph Hotel in Rome. The glamorous event was attended by many stars of the fashion and movie industries: Anna Fendi, Stefano Dominella, Tosca D' Aquino, Cinzia Malvini, Enrica Bonaccorti and Janet De Nardis.
Internationally renowned hairstylist Sergio Valente began his career in an unusual way. While he was studying languages in the Sixties he was working as an interpreter for the most famous hairdresser in Rome, Filippo, who needed an interpreter for his English clientele. Exposed to the salon environment, he understood immediately that beauty was his real passion and started in the same salon his training to become a hair stylist.
His success took of 1966 with a cover of Vogue Italy and signed by Helmut Newton. In 1971, he opened his first own beauty salon in Via Condotti in Rome, which soon became a place of attraction for many women of the international jet set. His studio, located in Piazza di Spagna, is a veritable temple of hair beauty in the center of Rome. Sergio Valente contributes to maintain the high status of Italian fashion on the international scene, and his name has become a synonym of Italian taste for elegance, sophistication and fashion all over the world.
In his 50 years in the beauty profession he worked on the side of the greatest designers including Valentino, Versace , Ferre , Capucci , Lancetti , Fendi, Curiel and Sarli. But Sergio Valente has also always paid attention to young creatives and he instituted his own award the Premio Sergio Valente (Sergio Valente Prize) in 1990.
Among the many celebrities who have been entrusted themselves to the hands of Sergio Valente are fashion and movie stars such as Marcello Mastroianni, Charlize Theron, Sharon Stone, Helen Mirren, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Maria Boscono and Vanessa Hassler.
In 2011, Sergio Valente was awarded the title of Commander of Merit by the President of the Italian Republic and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers for a life dedicated to female beauty through the exaltation of taste, sophistication and style, and has received many Italian rewards throughout his career.
