Men fashion: the right basics

Men should own some essential pieces of clothes that can be worn independently what the trend is momentarily on the runway. Reading this, you might be thinking of your favorite pair of jeans or a timeless white shirt. Well, according to Tom Ford, everyone should have a well-cut dark suit, a pair of classic black lace-up shoes, a beautiful metallic watch and a tuxedo... That sounds as if a lot of classy pieces need to be added to the wardrobe of many men if they want to have the basics according to Tom Ford.

What is a basic after all? Isn’t it something we need, something that is going to be useful, even essential in our closet, instead of something we just had a crush on?
We do not all have the same way of life as Tom Ford so can we really call a tuxedo a basic, an essential?

These high-end clothes match perfectly with the Texan fashion designer style but do not necessarily have a universal impact. You should choose your essentials according to your way of life and your style.

That is why advising people about what basics to have can be a difficult job. Essentials are supposed to be timeless pieces and thus can be described as something that goes through the trends, something that will still be fashionable in 5 years and that can be worn with different garments to create different styles.

Here are some examples of what we can think of for our favorite basics for the winter: a tailored suit, an overcoat, a wool cable sweater, dark pair of jeans, a wool pea coat, a kaki parka, Chelsea boots…

Now, it is your turn to find your right basic!
