Focus on the Emmys
The 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Ceremony was held on Monday, August 25th in Downtown Los Angeles, California.
Steven Levitan and the producers and cast of Modern Family accept an award at the 66th Emmys.
The Emmys are considered to be the television equivalent to the Academy Awards (for film) or the Grammy Awards (for music). Launched in 1949, they now have a bigger importance thanks to the increasing success of TV shows.
TV SHOWS: MORE POWERFUL THAN MOVIES?
An increasing number of people spend hours watching TV shows every day and that is not very surprising knowing how these are addictive! The TV series have completely revolutionized the filming industry. Whether you like action (Game of Thrones), drama (Breaking Bad), comedy (How I Met Your Mother), geopolitics (Homeland) or more reality shows (Girls), there will always be something for you.
A few years ago, actors began their career in TV shows to get well-known and get access to the cinema industry. Now, the other way around, some famous movie actors star in TV series, such as Matthew McConaughey in True Detective.

If The Emmys are the occasion for talented actors or TV show directors to be awarded, it is also quite a fashion show! With such a high rate of audience and that many celebrities reunited in one single event, the Ceremony is the perfect occasion for fashion designers to show us their creations.
A great majority of actresses unsurprisingly opted for risk-free but still very glamorous gowns. Kerry Washington (Scandal) in Prada, Heidi Klum in Zac Posen, Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex) in Donna Karan Atelier… All were gorgeous.
Others decided to support young New York City designers. Michelle Dockery, the “Downtown Abbey” star, was wearing a tri-colored Rosie Assoulin gown and the 20-year-old actress Taissa Farmiga, starring in American Horror Story, hit the red carpet wearing Honor.

If you have never watched Breaking Bad before, maybe you should give it a thought. With 5 awards won on Monday, it seems like it is the best Drama Series of the year.
And if you are more of a comedy TV show fan, you should go for Modern Family, which won 3 awards, including the best Comedy Series.
Fun Fact: winners aren't just given the statuette; they actually have to buy it if they want to take it home!
