Music Meets Beauty

Fashion for Music

You don't experience music with your ears only anymore. Music has become visual, through the video clips of course, but also and especially through the artists themselves. Music stars have made themselves a name partly thanks to their look so far that they became true beauty influencers. Dozens of sites have flourished on the web describing clothes, make-up, and hairstyles of the most famous artists such as Rihanna or Beyonce. Even men are into it. And with their own fashion lines, stars make it even easier to dress just like them.

Kanye West just revealed the fall/winter 2014 collection through his collaboration with Jean Touitou's A.P.C.. Known for his "bling" style, Kanye however desired to bet on sobriety with simple colors such as khaki, white or blue jeans, and pure models, almost essential, true to the spirit of the French ready-to-wear. From the Austrian wool parka lined with fox fur to the Japanese denim, every material used for the sixteen pieces of the collection was carefully chosen by the singer himself.

Pharrell Williams just signed a partnership with the Dutch brand G-Star for a "Raw For The Oceans" collection made with yarn from recycled ocean plastic. Available September 6th. This is not the first time for Pharrell to work as a designer since he had already collaborated with the Japanese brand Uniqlo earlier this year for a collection of Spring / Summer t-shirts "I Am Other".

Rihanna just launched her new "Viva Glam" campaign for MAC helping people affected by HIV/AIDS. Available September 8th.

Beyonce has her collection of clothes, accessories and fragrances and collabored this summer with State hitting the road with the goal of giving back to thousands of kids in underfunded communities across the east coast with the #BeyGOOD x STATE GIVEBACKPACK Program.

Music for Fashion

The New York Fashion Week starts next week and if the whole show revolves around the presentation of the new spring / summer collections, music also holds a prime position in the show. It can elevate a show from good to fantastic in a few short beats. Runway shows are nothing without the right soundtrack to set the scene, which is why so many designers tap in-demand DJs and other music industry elites to make exclusive mixes tailored to their collections. We couldn't mention Pharrell Williams without referring to Daft Punk and their huge success together last year with their tube "Get Lucky". In 2008, the robotic band produced an exclusive mix for the Louis Vuitton spring/summer runway show (video below). They weren't the first ones and certainly not the last: Justice for Dior, M.I.A. for Kenzo, Maroon 5 for Victoria's Secret and others followed. At last fall/winter New York Fashion Week, there was a whole lot of Disclosure, Darkside, and Lorde, as well as plenty of golden oldies (fashion week isn't a fashion week without a Rolling Stones song or two).

Music inspires fashion, fashion inspires music.

The Fashion Meets Music Festival (FMMF) is the USA’s largest and first collaborative fusion festival to incorporate music with fashion brands. FMMF is here to celebrate both art forms while supporting the culturally diverse and self-expressive lifestyles of our nation’s best musicians, designers, and fans. Fashion and music have long been entwined within the creative realm. As music dares to break new ground so does the fashion that reflects it, leading to a seamless integration of their respective communities and influencers. FMMF will host over 120 musical acts across 15 of Columbus’ greatest musical destinations in addition to tailoring the Columbus Convention Center into a Fashion and Retail Expo.

The Fusion Foundation

FMMF is supporting the Fusion Foundation to aid young and creative individuals and groups pursuing their creative dreams. The Foundation’s mission is to provide time, talent, networking, and financial support to those who are working to transform their ideas into reality...[more info]
